Bonvini

Trends come and go, but there’s something that will never go out of fashion: handicraft. Bonvini was born in Milan in 1909 from the knowing hands of Costante Bonvini, who must have been a smart guy, because after a simple market survey he noticed that people had to go out of town to find a stationery shop. He decided to open his own in Corso Lodi and put his sister Luigia to work in there, who had troubles finding a job because of a disability. At first, Bonvini was simply a stationery shop, but after a while Costante bought some typographical machines to meet the neighborhood’s demands: a pedal machine from the end of the Nineteenth Century, an Imperia with wooden types, a Heidelberg.

Time passes by and the arrival of new technologies made the typographic work more and more marginal until 2011, when the old age of the owners required the search for a new heir who could love the activity as much as they did. So, after Leila and Luigi departure from Earth, in 2014 a group of partners passionate about typography decided to take over the old shop, restored it completely (careful to keep every aspect of the store intact) and reopened the activity under a new guise. Today it’s possible to print with the “Old School Method”, buy unique and refined stationery, attend workshops dedicated to the graphic art, calligraphy and typography. In honor of the Bonvini family, we hope that the products and the activity that made the stationery such a unique place in Milan will stay in those walls for many, many years to come.
